Our Covenant of Safety: Concussion Protocol
A Culture of Care
In this organization, we value the person more than the position. Because we care deeply about the long-term well-being of our athletes, we follow a strict "When in Doubt, Sit Them Out" policy. If a coach or mentor suspects a head injury, the athlete will be immediately removed from play. To ensure their safety, there is no same-day return to the field. We will notify parents instantly and require a medical evaluation from a professional experienced in concussion care before any next steps are taken.
The Path to Recovery
We believe in patience and discipline, especially when it comes to healing. Before returning to the huddle, an athlete must be completely symptom-free and provide written clearance from a doctor. From there, we lead them through a gradual, five-stage "Return-to-Play" process:
-
Stage 1: Light activity (walking or light jogging) to get the heart rate up.
-
Stage 2: Sport-specific drills with no head impact.
-
Stage 3: Non-contact training and complex team drills.
-
Stage 4: Full-contact practice (only after final medical approval).
-
Stage 5: Full return to game-day competition.
A Higher Standard of Protection
We ask our athletes and parents to be honest about symptoms. Seeking glory in a single game isn't worth risking the bright future God has for these young leaders. If a player experiences severe headaches, confusion, or repeated vomiting, we will seek emergency medical care immediately. We play hard, but we play smart, keeping our eyes on the health and safety of every brother and sister on this team.
The Heart of a Teammate: Presence During Injury
Being part of this organization is about more than just physical play; it’s about commitment and brotherhood. If an athlete is sidelined due to an injury or is working through our concussion protocol, we still require them to show up for practices and games.
Even if you cannot physically participate, your presence is vital. You are there to support your team, encourage your brothers and sisters from the sidelines, and continue your growth by watching and learning the game. A true leader doesn't disappear when they are hurt; they stay engaged, stay informed, and lead through their character and presence. We are a family, and we show up for each other, through every high and every low.
